Umi Ishihara is an Artist and Filmmaker based in Tokyo and London.

I create experimental narratives that weave together personal memories and social issues.
My films address themes of politics, community and alienation from society. Often working closely with non-actors who are local people and people around me, I am interested in examining possibilities of activism through the process of filmmaking.
My work has been shown in museums and film festivals worldwide, including The Centre Pompidou, ICA London, BFI Southbank, South London Gallery, International Film Festival Rotterdam, CPH:DOC, The National Museum of Art Osaka, Fukuoka Art Museum and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. Also directed work broadcasts on the BBC4 and Amazon Prime Original.

ロンドンと東京を拠点にする映画監督／アーティスト。
コミュニティ、そして社会から疎外された人々を描くことを主なテーマに、個人的な記憶と社会問題を織り交ぜた物語ベースの制作をしている。2018年東京藝術大学 先端芸術学科 修了。現在ロンドン大学ゴールドスミス校 アーティストフィルム学科在学中。
近年の主な活動に『スウィート・ホーム・スウィート』（国立国際美術館, 2023）第14回 恵比寿映像祭 (東京都写真美術館, 2022) 第15回 資生堂アートエッグ入選 (2021) 初長編映画『ガーデンアパート』『忘却の先駆者』がロッテルダム国際映画祭に二作同時選出（2019）またAmazonプライムオリジナル作品『The Tour’23』(2023) BBC/BFI助成作品『狂気の管理人』（2019）を監督。現代芸術振興財団 （CAF賞）岩渕貞哉賞受賞(2015)。
広告の分野では、ルイ・ヴィトン、ナイキ、アディダス、MIU MIU、KENZO、DISELなどの映像を監督。
